In a barely-concluded press conference, the LDS church announced today that they are transitioning (quickly) out of adoption services.
Beginning August 1, LDS Family Services will become a counseling service for single expectant parents but will no longer be involved in placing children.
Birth families and pre-adoptive families currently in the system will have until Dec 31 to complete their adoptions, according to a letter issued today.
The official reason given is a drop-off in adoptions occurring in recent years.
However, the current political climate makes this move unsurprising.
