Funeral and memorial services announced for former Speaker Rebecca Lockhart
A public memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m for former Speaker of the House Rebecca Lockhart. The service will be held in the Capitol Rotunda in Salt Lake City.
A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church chapel at 1625 South Slate Canyon Drive in Provo.
The funeral will be on Friday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church stake center located at 300 North 900 East in Provo.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be directed to the Rebecca D. Lockhart Endowed Scholarship for students at the Center for Constitutional Studies at Utah Valley University. Donations may be made online at https://www.donate.
Former Speaker Rebecca Lockhart passed away in her home shortly after noon on Jan. 17, 2015, from an unrecoverable and extremely rare neurodegenerative brain disease known as CJD. She was 46.
She served in the Utah House of Representatives for 16 years, including the last four as the Speaker of the House.
She is survived her husband, Stan, and three children, Hannah, Emily and Stephen; her parents Jerald and Gretchen Tower, and four siblings, Carrie Castillo, Lara Millington, Matt Tower, and Sam Tower.
