House Chief to Step Down at Year’s End [UPH Wire]

SALT LAKE CITY –  Joe Pyrah, Chief Deputy of the Utah House of Representatives, will be departing at the end of the year. Joe has worked for Speaker Rebecca Lockhart for four years and has served as a senior advisor and energetic and dedicated supporter not only to her, but to representatives and staff of the House.

“Joe has helped guide the House through some of the toughest issues we’ve seen in decades,” said Speaker Lockhart. “Whether it was redistricting, the landmark investigation of the Attorney General, or his efforts to help modernize education, Joe has shown wisdom, humor and tenacity.”

He plans to use the insights and experiences gained from his time at the House of Representatives in new opportunities developing policy and efficiency in government and politics.

“It’s easy to be cynical about the politics, but I leave after four years with a profound respect for the legislative process. It has been an absolute honor to work for Speaker Lockhart, and with members of the House and Senate, staff, and heroes in the community,” Pyrah said.

“We’ve made some history. Some of it public, much of it unsung. Utah is on a good path in policy and budget matters, and in good hands. I wish the Speaker-Elect and his administration every success.”

Speaker-Elect Greg Hughes also praised Pyrah, who has decided to step down to pursue other options. “Joe served the Utah House of Representatives well for the past four years,” said Hughes. “We appreciate the hard work and dedication he has given to the state and thank him for assisting us with the transition.”
