Did You Know That It’s Illegal to Share Raw Milk?

According to state code 4-3-10. Unlawful acts specified  it is illegal, “to own, organize, or otherwise participate in a cow share program where the milk producing hoofed mammal is located in Utah.”

What does this mean?

Cow Share Program: A cow share program is when two or more people get together to own a cow and share in its cost.  They also shareGotMilkLogoPic the milk that it produces.

Example: If you and your neighbor or other family members decide to buy a cow and share the cost of the cow as well as share the milk it is illegal.  They are not selling the milk just sharing it with those who own the cow.

This law was passed in 2007 but there is a bill (HB104) going before the Agriculture Committee this Friday February 6th that could change this law so the owners of the cow can legally use the milk.  This is where the people presenting the bill need our help.

THE MOST IMPORTANT thing is to put Support House Bill 104 in the subject.

Subject : Please Support HB104

Dear State Representative,

I am writing to ask you to support HB104.  The current law makes cow sharing programs illegal and this seriously restricts people’s ability to choose what they think is best for themselves and their families.   HB104 isn’t about what is healthy and safe it is about free agency and property rights. That is why I am asking for your support of HB104 to help restore the property rights that the current law took away from those that choose to share a cow and drink the milk it produces.

One important thing I should mention is that this milk is not being sold to the public it is just being used by those who are part of the share a cow program.

Thank you for taking the time to look over my request.

Sincerely,

(Your Name and Address)
