In an interview with Utah Politico Hub Wednesday morning, Phil Conder confirmed that he is running for Utah State Treasurer. Richard Ellis will resign from the office in November. Neil Walter of Washington County has also announced he is running for State Treasurer.
Conder said that he intends “to bring the [Treasurer’s] office into the twenty-first century.” He decided to run after receiving calls from friends and associates urging him to consider the post.
A Salt Lake County resident and graduate from the University of Utah, Conder is currently the Budget, Fiscal and Records Officer in Salt Lake County’s Treasurer’s office under Wayne Cushing.
Conder has previously run for both the State Legislature and for the West Valley City city council.
The Utah Republican Party’s State Central Committee will meet in November to select three individuals to forward to Governor Gary Herbert for appointment to complete Ellis’ term.
