The “Say Anything” Ethics of Harry Reid

During the 2012 presidential campaign, Sen. Harry Reid was trotted out by the Democrats as one could appropriately savage Mitt Romney, a fellow Mormon. For one of his attacks, Reid generated weeks of distraction by accusing Romney of not paying his income taxes for ten years. What was his evidence? An anonymous source.

Now that Reid’s retiring, Dana Bash asked him about that insubstantial claim he’d made in 2012. What was his response? “Romney didn’t win, did he?”

Notice the complete lack of ethical consideration is such an answer. Did Harry Reid even have an anonymous source, or did he make it up out of thin air? To him, it doesn’t matter. As long as Romney didn’t win. Just one more example of how disgraceful Reid could be as Senate Majority Leader. He will not be missed.
