Utah AG Sean Reyes on sex trafficking and Operation Underground Railroad [Video]

Before the 2015 Utah Legislative Session got rolling yesterday, about the most exciting story in Utah through all of January was about Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes undercover operation to break up a sex trafficking ring in South America. Sean Reyes spoke with the Salt Lake Tribune’s Jennifer Napier-Pearce about it.

Utah AG Reyes Talks About El Cid, the Great Puhi, Bushido Warriors and Speaking Truth to Power in His Second Inauguration

Attorney General Sean Reyes began his second year in office and his first since facing voters in November. His inauguration speech set a tone of inclusiveness  and cross-cultural depth, as well as a willingness to fight even tough battles when the cause is just. It’s hard to make politics interesting to the average American. Let’s be honest: the only thing less interesting than listening to a politician drone on about taxes, budgets, treaties, and any number of other public policies is the dying art of watching paint dry. Somehow, Attorney General Sean Reyes managed…

Why I Work for Attorney General Sean Reyes

On New Year’s Eve Day, 2013, I read Sean Reyes was appointed Utah Attorney General.  I emailed to wish him well.  I hadn’t seen Sean for five years; it was over ten since we worked at the same firm. I had left Parsons Behle & Latimer to work for a mentor and judge on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. After working in Washington, D.C. in a Supreme Court and Appellate practice, I returned to Utah to work as an Assistant Federal Defender, a job I loved. Sean left the…

Ads from the Utah Attorney General Race

The other race in Utah this year–besides the ho-hums in Utah’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Congressional Districts and the drop-down drag-out race for the 4th–is the Utah Attorney General race. Needless to say, short of a major scandal hitting the presses, Attorney General Sean Reyes already has the race tied up. But that doesn’t mean that neither he nor his opponent, Democrat Charles Stormont, aren’t making an effort to get in front of the voters. Here are the ads that both candidates have produced and are running over radio and television. Television…

Let’s dispel with the fear-mongering surrounding education and the Common Core standards. Here are the highlights from the report, as well a cautionary note for where our focus should lie. On Tuesday afternoon, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes released a report on legal questions surrounding Common Core. Before he had even completed the press conference, activists had already started using his comments as fodder to support their preconceived positions. Haters gonna hate. And activists are gonna activate. None of them had read the report, let alone considered that the report was…

Even though the Bar dismissed it: Why Filing a Bar Complaint against John Swallow was still the Right Thing to Do.

With news that prosecutors have finally filed charges against two telemarketers whose relationship with John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff played a part in the  “pay-to-play” allegations against the former Utah attorneys general, former Director of the Utah Division of Consumer Protection Traci Gunderson explains why her Bar complaint against Swallow mattered.  The recent news that serial telemarketers Aaron Christner and Ryan Jensen were charged with felony counts regarding their ongoing telemarketing activities was greeted at the Gundersen household with delighted approval. A Tale of Two Interviews: Gehrke and Shurtleff on the Salt City Throwdown

Salt City Throwdown

Recently, we had two gentlemen who have been in the Utah media a bit recently on the Salt City Throwdown Podcast. First:  in our fourth episode, we had Salt Lake Tribune Reporter Robert Gehrke on the Salt City Throwdown. He came in studio and sat with us for the better part of two hours where we built a timeline and discussed some of the information about John Swallow and his short-lived Administration. The two-hour episode highlights the John Swallow scandal, and builds out a simple, concise timeline. Later:  Mark Shurtleff  came on…
