In a letter, Utah Republican Party Chair James Evans has called on  Republican County Chair and legislative candidate Blake Cozzens to resign from his party position to avoid conflict of interest. The Salt Lake County GOP experienced a shakeup today as county party chair Chad Bennion and treasurer Mel Nimer both resigned from their respective offices in the Republican Party. Nimer is currently running for Salt Lake County Council At Large Seat A and is resigning to focus on his campaign. Bennion said he’s resigning for family reasons, but he has been involved in some public controversy during his brief time as chair.
