My Reaction to the CNN GOP Debate

First, the afternoon GOP debate. None of these four have a shot. How’d they do? 1. LINDSEY GRAHAM – Graham seemed downright depressed in the first debate, so he was much more relaxed and energetic here. He destroyed Rick Santorum in their exchanges, and he had the confidence in his positions. Too bad the main thrust of his campaign is fear-mongering and making sure we get into another decade-long war. “Vote for me, or ISIL will come to America and kill you!” 2. GEORGE PATAKI – The former New York…

Donaldson’s post-GOP debate quick hits

Some thoughts after CNN’s GOP debate: Rand Paul gets the Jon Huntsman Award as the Republican who wins the Democrats vote. Jeb Bush is having a terrible time, as I see it, and it is only getting worse. He is the establishment, big donor, old news candidate that doesn’t fit the mood. He seems like a defensive spoiled weakling getting bullied. He is owning, disowning, and reowning his brother. Whatever criteria qualifies for “he kept us safe” applies as much to Obama as W. I am surprised that no one is…

Preview of the CNN GOP debate

On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, there will be 11 Republican candidates in a two-hour prime-time CNN debate set for 6:00pm MST. Two hours earlier – at 4:00pm MST – there will be a one-hour debate with the other 4 candidates in the race. Rick Perry has dropped out of the race, and since Jim Gilmore has yet to get 1% on any major poll, he has not been invited to the afternoon debate. The earlier debate will feature Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Lindsey Graham, and George Pataki. it is fortunate…

Why Most of the GOP Candidates Should Drop Out

There are 17 GOP candidates for president. There are many good options in there, but it’s hard to tell because Donald Trump is getting all the attention, and the sheer quantity of options is causing them to blur together. So let me offer some helpful reasons so that some of these candidates will stop wasting our time. I’ll put these into three tiers. TIER ONE – DROP OUT NOW, YOU HAVE NO CHANCE Jim Gilmore – Served one term as governor of Virginia (1998-2002). Army veteran. Served as RNC Chair…

Utahns Dislike Trump, Would Still Elect Him Over Clinton

A recently released Utah Voter Poll showed that Utahns have a low opinion of Donald Trump, but they’d still vote for him 54-46 over Hillary Clinton. Trump has a net favorability rating of -51, but Clinton’s own net rating (-41) is also low and shows that most voters would rather vote for someone they don’t like from their own party than someone from the other party. Respondents identified as 55% Republican, 30% Democrat, and 15% as Independent or Other. For Utah’s senators, Mike Lee had a +3 rating (49-46) and…

Were the GOP Debate questions fair?

Donald Trump may have had the most personal questions, but he had the most questions, period. Fox News did what moderators on any other network could not do: ask tough questions zeroing in on the weaknesses of every candidate. Anderson Cooper asks the same question, and it’s a gotcha question. If anything, Fox News raised the bar for Democrats when they have their first debate cleeeeear in October. If I had a main criticism of the questions, and for the most part I was pleased, it was that they spent…

#GOPDebate Transcript – Chris Christie’s Questions & Answers

BRET BAIER: Governor Christie, you’re not exactly the darling of conservatives. You tout your record as a Republican governor in a blue state. On Facebook, the most people talking about you, not surprisingly, come from your state of New Jersey, and one of the top issues they are talking about is the economy. This — this may be why. Under your watch, New Jersey has undergone nine credit rating downgrades. The state’s 44th in private sector growth. You face an employee pension crisis and the Garden State has the third…

A Tale of Two GOP Debates

Yesterday, the top 17 candidates for the Republican nomination held two debates on Fox News. The earlier afternoon GOP debate felt like a true punishment, performing in an empty auditorium and with the B-team moderators of Bill Hemmer and Martha McCallum. The prime-time debate between the top 10 candidates had a packed house, the A-team of Chris Wallace and Megyn Kelly (and the B+ tag-along Bret Baier), and the star-power curiosity of Donald Trump meant record ratings. The afternoon debate featured former Texas governor Rick Perry, former Pennsylvania senator Rick…
