Why Trump will destroy the GOP (and probably take the Democrats with him)

Donald Trump did what I didn’t think was possible: he got elected President of the United States. Nothing else has changed. He is still a vulgar ideologically-unmoored proto-fascist con man who has enabled and emboldened the worst elements of the alt-Reich. No amount of surrounding him with GOP handlers is going to keep Trump from, well, being Trump. In fact, this is likely to transform the GOP from a party that at least pays lip service to the idea of limited government into a populist party of anti-liberal grievance politics.…

A new year is upon us. I wish that optimism for 2016 was in order, but a conflagration of events suggests otherwise. Storm clouds gather on the horizon – economically, socially and politically. While there are many things that give us hope, there are also numerous reasons to be concerned. Indeed 2016 may become known as the “Year of Living Dangerously”, with apologies to any vague Hollywood references. There are many reasons I believe that 2016 may be a pivotal year in the history of this great experiment in liberty…

SQUEEZE THE BALLOON: Bursting Foreign Economies While Trying To Save Our Own

Our economy is like a balloon.  A balloon grows as air fills its interior.  Our economy grows as the number of business transactions increase within our borders.  Like a balloon, sometimes our economy seems to grow lopsided or in an irregular shape.  Sometimes even, the economy shrinks, and like a deflated balloon, it presents unsightly wrinkled patches.  These irregular shapes and wrinkled patches of the economy routinely become the object of attention of the media, the public, and policymakers. I recently completed reading From New Deal Banking Reform to World…

Why I am a Democrat in Utah

Utah Democratic Party

People have asked me many times why I align with the Democratic Party in Utah. Anywhere else and I would be considered a moderate republican most likely. I was raised in a household where conservatism ruled. My parents were big fans of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, the usual suspects. But I ended up different. I ended up as a semi left wing adult. Usually I make jokes. “It’s easier to get my name out there in a less crowded field” or “Everyone’s a republican! I want to be different!” Now…
