Sim Gill, you need some wins

I’m starting to wonder what it is that Sim Gill does all day. As the district attorney for Salt Lake County, his job is to investigate crimes and, if sufficient evidence is found, prosecute perpetrators of those crimes. In the last few years it seems like he’s not very successful when it’s a high-profile case. Let’s take a look at a few examples. The first is the now completely botched investigation and prosecution of former Attorneys General Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow. The report compiled by the legislature was extremely…

What’s changed? Funny you should ask…

In the last few days, embattled Salt Lake County Deputy Recorder Julie Dole has been posting endorsements on her Facebook page from various elected officials and Republican Party officers. Well, sort of. All of them are from 2011 when she ran for Salt Lake County GOP Chair. It’s clear, though, that she’s intending to use those previous kind words and endorsements to weather the absolute storm going on right now as a result of the saga of Gary Ott (one in which she was an active participant before saying “I…

Julie Dole on Gary Ott, in her own Facebook posts

I’ve known Julie Dole for several years, casually, since I was a precinct chair in WHT004 and she was county chair of the Salt Lake County. Through the saga of her boss, Gary Ott, I’ve been trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to do so. These two Facebook posts are after the story initially broke in March. Both of these posts are two months before the Salt Lake Tribune reported on Gary Ott having a hard time answering questions from the Salt…

Gary, it’s time

Watching the saga of Gary Ott unfold has been truly bizarre. From the uncertainty as to where he lives to the soap opera of who he is or isn’t in a relationship with to the rather incoherent responses to the few public interviews he’ll grant, it feels like I’m watching an episode of Parks and Recreation rather than reading the news. Unfortunately, this isn’t an excellent scripted comedy and running the Recorder’s office isn’t some trivial task. It requires someone who is in full control of their faculties. It requires…

My client’s psychic told her that the Realtor she had in mind (me) was a “go get’er”. In response, I told the client that I must have sold…
