New Poll Shows Healthy Utah Has Less Than Fifty Percent Support Among Informed Voters

Informed voters don’t support Healthy Utah, according to a new poll. The poll results will provide ammo to opponents of the Medicaid expansion, further complicating Governor Gary Herbert‘s efforts to find a compromise with conservative legislators to cover uninsured Utahns. The poll, released today and embedded below, shows less than fifty percent of informed voters support Healthy Utah when given information about the impact of the law on the federal debt. The poll was conducted by Wilson Perkins Allen on behalf of Republican consultant Chuck Warren’s Silver Bullet. Warren has also been retained by Jonathan Johnson, who is expected…

Countdown: The “Three Amigos” of the House

As our countdown continues, the 3rd to the last day of the 2015 session focuses on the “Three Amigos” of House Leadership. First, Speaker Greg Hughes. At the end of his first session, it has been a bit of a tumultuous ride, with a number of significant bills and not insignificant differences of opinion. Speaker Hughes comes from a scrappy Philadelphia background and his “fighter” instincts have been on display this session. He has been willing to take punches for the body and they, in return, have his back. (He’s also…

Speaker versus Governor: Healthy Utah or Nothing?

The selection of Hughes as Speaker comes after rumors prior to the meeting put the Salt Lake legislator at the front of the race for the spot. He won selection after just one round of voting, with the vote tally stopping once the count rose above 31,…

John Swallow and massive data recovery

The House investigative committee met again to discuss potential legislation resulting from the Swallow investigation. They discussed several different bills (including one that beefs up the section of code that deals with organized crime!!) but one of the most important bits of information came at the end of the meeting. Chairman Jim Dunnigan spoke to committee members and notified them that there was a significant amount of additional data that had just been recovered. If you remember, out of all the devices that John Swallow had been using, only one…
