If you want a better electoral system, ignore Count My Vote

I’ve long maintained that the Count My Vote proposal (and SB54 co-opting) are complete dumpster fires for the state’s electoral system. The entire fight is nothing more than using state law to try and determine who gets to be Utah’s kingmaker of the Republican Party label. Merrill Cook running for Utah State Treasurer

Merrill Cook has entered the race for Utah State Treasurer, the Utah Republican Party confirmed to Utah Politico Hub on Friday. The former Congressman is the fourth to enter the race to replace current Utah State Treasurer, Richard Ellis, who stepped down, effective November 1, to take a position with the state’s non-profit college savings program.  Neil Walter, Phil Conder, and David Damschen have previously announced their candidacies for the office.
