Why Most of the GOP Candidates Should Drop Out

There are 17 GOP candidates for president. There are many good options in there, but it’s hard to tell because Donald Trump is getting all the attention, and the sheer quantity of options is causing them to blur together. So let me offer some helpful reasons so that some of these candidates will stop wasting our time. I’ll put these into three tiers. TIER ONE – DROP OUT NOW, YOU HAVE NO CHANCE Jim Gilmore – Served one term as governor of Virginia (1998-2002). Army veteran. Served as RNC Chair…

Rick Perry: The tortoise and Donald Trump’s hair

Following the first primary debate Rick Perry has yet to signify any substantial bump in the polls. Though he has continued to press forward on the campaign trail his funding has significantly dried up. Staying afloat required relying on the aid of Super PACs to rescue the struggling campaign. To make matters worse, Perry has resorted to the aid of a largely volunteer staff to get out his message. Some argue that the financial difficulty Perry is experiencing is the handwriting on the wall that he will likely be the first…

Were the GOP Debate questions fair?

Donald Trump may have had the most personal questions, but he had the most questions, period. Fox News did what moderators on any other network could not do: ask tough questions zeroing in on the weaknesses of every candidate. Anderson Cooper asks the same question, and it’s a gotcha question. If anything, Fox News raised the bar for Democrats when they have their first debate cleeeeear in October. If I had a main criticism of the questions, and for the most part I was pleased, it was that they spent…

RAND PAUL: This is what’s wrong! [when Trump raises his hand.] BRET BAIER: OK. PAUL: I mean, this is what’s wrong. He buys and sells politicians of all stripes, he’s already… BAIER: Dr. Paul. PAUL: Hey, look, look! He’s already hedging his bet on the Clintons, OK? So if he doesn’t run as a Republican, maybe he supports Clinton, or maybe he runs as an independent, but I’d say that he’s already hedging his bets because he’s used to buying politicians. — BAIER: Senator Paul, you recently blamed the rise of…

A Tale of Two GOP Debates

Yesterday, the top 17 candidates for the Republican nomination held two debates on Fox News. The earlier afternoon GOP debate felt like a true punishment, performing in an empty auditorium and with the B-team moderators of Bill Hemmer and Martha McCallum. The prime-time debate between the top 10 candidates had a packed house, the A-team of Chris Wallace and Megyn Kelly (and the B+ tag-along Bret Baier), and the star-power curiosity of Donald Trump meant record ratings. The afternoon debate featured former Texas governor Rick Perry, former Pennsylvania senator Rick…
