West Jordan Planning Commissioner Announces Intent To Run For City Council
West Jordan Planning Commissioner Zach Jacob has announced his intent to run for the 3rd district seat on the West Jordan City Council, currently occupied by Ben Southworth, who has indicated that he will not be seeking a third term in the office.
“I’m excited at the prospect of representing the citizens of West Jordan’s northwest area,” said Jacob, who served as the Vice-chairman of the Planning Commission in 2014. “I feel like I have a good grasp on the concerns of our citizens, and I want to get things done on the city council.”
Top priorities for Jacob include improving public safety through police and fire funding, as well as increasing the budget for snow removal and salting, as well as improving streetlights and sidewalks. “Public safety should involve more than a quick response to an emergency, it should also include preventing the emergencies in the first place, which is why snow removal, lighting, and sidewalks should fall under the same umbrella.”
Other areas he wants to tackle on the city council are economic development, sustainable growth, and fiscal discipline. Details on these issues can be found on the candidate’s website at www.zachjacob.com.
This is not Jacob’s first run. As a relative unknown, he ran for one of the two at-large seats on the Council in 2013, coming up 85 votes short of advancing through the primary election. Jacob also serves currently as the Vice Chairman of the city’s Sustainability and Budget Committee.
Candidates can officially file for office during the first week of June. The primary election, if necessary, will be August 11, and the general election will take place November 2.
